Faux Log Fish Cave for Koi Shelter and Predator Protection The Aquascape Faux Log Fish Cave provides koi and large goldfish with a secure, shaded hiding space that reduces predation stress and encourages natural resting behaviour. Positioned on the pond floor or against a side wall, the hollow log form creates a visible retreat that fish use reliably once they discover it. Shelter That Reduces Stress and Predation Loss Koi in ponds without refuge points become chronically stressed from exposure to overhead predators such as herons. Stressed fish feed less, grow slowly, and have suppressed immune responses. A cave that fish can retreat to restores the behavioural security that ponds with natural overhangs and plant cover provide. The log form integrates naturally at the pond floor without creating the sharp-edged hiding spots that can injure fish. Spec Value Material UV-resistant resin composite, safe for submerged use Finish Realistic log texture, grey-brown natural tones Safe For Koi, goldfish, aquatic plants, pond wildlife Placement Pond floor or against pond wall How to Use Rinse the cave before placing in the pond. Set on the pond floor with the opening oriented toward open water so fish can approach from multiple angles. In new ponds, introduce the cave before adding fish so they discover it quickly. No anchoring required for most ponds. Remove and inspect annually during pond cleanouts to confirm the interior is clear of accumulated debris. Ideal for koi ponds, goldfish ponds, and wildlife water gardens where fish health and predator protection are priorities and natural-looking shelter enhances the design.
