Prevent Ext Pump Leaks With Fresh Seals and O-rings The Aquascape Ext Pump Mechanical Seal and O-ring Kit is a factory replacement seal set for Aquascape Ext 12000 and Ext 18000 external pond pumps. The mechanical seal is the primary barrier between the pump's wet side and the motor housing; replacing it and the associated O-rings as part of scheduled annual maintenance prevents water ingress into the motor and is significantly less costly than motor replacement after seal failure. Preventive Maintenance That Protects a Significant Investment External pond pumps at the Ext 12000 and 18000 level are substantial equipment investments. Mechanical seals are consumable items with a finite service life that typically extends to one to three years of continuous operation depending on water quality, temperature cycling, and pump duty cycle. Replacing the seal and O-rings on a scheduled basis, before failure, is the most reliable way to protect the motor and impeller from water damage and maintain uninterrupted operation through the full season. Specification Value Compatible With Aquascape Ext 12000 and Ext 18000 external pond pumps Kit Contents Mechanical seal assembly, O-rings Service Interval Annual or as required when leakage is detected How to Use Shut down the pump and isolate the suction and discharge valves. Drain the pump casing. Following the Aquascape Ext pump service manual, remove the motor section to access the mechanical seal. Remove the worn seal and clean the seal seat surfaces. Install the replacement seal components in the correct assembly order, taking care not to contaminate the lapped seal faces with grease or fingerprints. Replace all O-rings from the kit. Reassemble, refill with water to prime, and test for leaks at the seal faces before returning to service. Ideal for annual preventive maintenance on Aquascape Ext 12000 and Ext 18000 external pond pumps, and for emergency seal replacement when drips at the pump body are first detected.
