It employs Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology to optimise charge acceptance and extend battery life, even helping to recover some lost battery capacity. The controller supports various 12V lead-acid battery types, including sealed, gel, and flooded, allowing you to select the appropriate setting for maximum charging efficiency. While the default profile is set for sealed batteries, it can be adjusted via optional accessories for other battery types. For enhanced control and monitoring, the controller features advanced communication technology. You can monitor system performance and program parameters remotely using optional accessories such as an MT50 remote meter, a Wi-Fi module (with the 'Solar Station Monitor' mobile app), or a direct PC/laptop connection (using 'Solar Station Monitor' software). These options allow you to view crucial data like voltage, current, battery state of charge, and accumulated energy, as well as customise battery types, charging stages, and even 'load' settings for small 12V devices connected to the optional load output. Typical Applications Application Description Motorhomes & Caravans Provides essential power for leisure batteries, extending stays in remote locations. Boats & Yachts Keeps marine 12V batteries charged for navigation, lighting, and onboard electronics. Off-Grid Camping & Wild Camping Powers portable 12V systems for lighting, charging devices, and small appliances. Remote 12V Systems Suitable for various standalone 12V battery applications where grid power is unavailable. Built-In Protection Functions The advanced 10A charge controller provides comprehensive protection for your battery and system. It includes safeguards against overcharging • reverse current at night (preventing battery discharge back to panels) • incorrect polarity • short circuits • over-discharge • overheating (of both battery and controller) • and overload (for the optional load output). The IP67 rating ensures the controller is fully waterproof, allowing confident use in all weather conditions. Common Questions What battery types are compatible with this kit? This kit is designed for 12V sealed, gel, and flooded lead-acid batteries. It is not suitable for charging lithium batteries. Can I leave the solar kit connected to my battery overnight? Yes, the integrated solar charge controller includes reverse current protection, preventing power from flowing back from the battery to the solar panels at night. Your battery will not discharge through the panels. What is the minimum battery voltage required for the controller to start? The solar charge controller requires a minimum battery voltage of 9V to initiate charging. If your battery is below this level, it will need to be charged by other means first. Is the kit waterproof? The entire kit is designed for all-weather use, with the solar charge controller specifically rated IP67 waterproof. However, it is recommended to protect the Anderson plug and metal connectors on the battery cable from excessive moisture. Installation Notes Unfold the panels and position them to face direct sunlight for optimal energy harvest. Connect the kit directly to your 12V lead-acid battery using the supplied cables and crocodile clips. Ensure correct polarity when connecting to the battery to prevent damage. For permanent installations, the crocodile clips can be replaced with ring terminals (included in some kits or available separately). Refer to the comprehensive instruction manuals for detailed setup and operation guidance. Before You Buy Verify your battery type is 12V lead-acid (sealed, gel, or flooded). This kit is not for lithium batteries. Confirm the kit's 40W output is sufficient for your charging needs. Consider optional accessories (remote meter, Wi-Fi module, PC cable) if advanced monitoring and programming are desired. Always handle solar panels with care to avoid glass damage. For any complex electrical work or permanent installations, consult a qualified professional. Please verify all specifications and compatibility requirements before purchase. This product is covered by a 1-year workmanship warranty, and solar cells are guaranteed to retain at least 90% of nominal power after 10 years and 80% after 25 years.
